    ESL TEACHER – ESL Summer Academy (Temporary Assignment)


    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    Provides ESL instruction at the high school level in an intensive summer program, 4.5 hours per day for 5 weeks. Receives general supervision and technical supervision from the ELL Instructional Specialist and Administrator of Norwalk Summer School.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Instructional Program
      1. Works with the supervisor to implement, strengthen, improve the program.
      2. Keeps informed of new developments in curriculum, instruction methods.
      3. Implements new and established programs.
      4. Provides students with diversified learning activities.
      5. Helps interpret the curriculum to parents.
      6. Classroom Supervision
        1. Teaches students good study habits.
        2. Promotes positive self concepts; provides encouragement to each student to develop his/her full potential.
        3. Understands social and emotional adjustments of students.
        4. Promotes students’ awareness, respect for different cultures.
        5. Creates an appropriate learning atmosphere in the classroom; maintains classroom order.
        6. Maintains student attendance and tardiness records.
        7. Makes evaluation reports upon request.
        8. Maintains records of individual student’s progress through assignments, quizzes, projects.
        9. Keeps inventory of materials, equipment and supplies.
        10. Professional Responsibility:
          1. Works in the interest of the students’ physical, emotional welfare.
          2. Accepts, incorporates suggestions for classroom improvement.
          3. Others:
            1. Performs related duties as required.

            2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
              CT TESOL Certification Pre-K – 12.

              COMPENSATION: PER N.F.T. CONTRACT
              EFFECTIVE DATE: June 8 - August 9, 2019
